St. Luke's Mother-Baby Services

Mother-Baby Services

Every woman is unique, and so is her pregnancy. That's why St. Luke's provides services to meet the needs of every expectant family. As southern Idaho's only Magnet-designated hospitals, St. Luke's Boise Regional Medical Center and St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center provide nationally recognized nursing care in safe, modern facilities that feature state-of-the-art technology and a warm and caring atmosphere.

Labor and Delivery

St. Luke's has been delivering babies for more than a century - and is now the number one choice of Idaho parents. With more than 5,000 very special deliveries each year, our Labor and Delivery Unit is designed with your comfort and safety in mind, and our Labor and Delivery staff is skilled, experienced, and in tune with your needs, helping to provide the childbirth experience you desire and always vigilant about the health of you and your baby.

Mother-Baby Care

After delivery, moms and babies rest in our comfortable, secure, and family-friendly Mother-Baby Care Unit. While you're getting to know each other, our nurses carefully monitor mom and baby's progress to ensure that all is well before you take home your new bundle of joy.

Antepartum Care and Maternal Fetal Medicine

We have Idaho's only dedicated Antepartum Care Unit, for expectant moms who require days, weeks, or even months of bed rest. Our Antepartum Care Unit offers all the comforts of home, while providing specialized care for everything from diabetes to premature labor to multiples - with the state's most experienced group of Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists available around the clock to monitor your baby's progress.

Newborn Intensive Care

You'll find that St. Luke's has the most experienced Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Idaho, with neonatologists onsite 24 hours a day, and a world-renowned high-risk newborn developmental care program. With expert staff and the most advanced technology, St. Luke's NICU provides compassionate care and family support in a calm, soothing environment specially designed for your infant's needs - because every new mom wants the best for her baby, particularly when a higher level of sophisticated care is needed due to prematurity or illness.

Maternal Fetal Medicine

Our maternal fetal medicine specialists are obstetrician/gynecologists who care for women with high-risk pregnancies or special problem pregnancies. These specialists have completed additional formal training and have advanced knowledge of the medical, genetic, surgical, and obstetrical complications that can occur during pregnancy. Each has obtained certification in obstetrics/gynecology as well as maternal fetal medicine.
Transport teams from Air St. Luke's, Idaho's newest and most comprehensive medical transport program, work in concert with our maternal fetal medicine specialists. Nearly every pregnant woman transported to St. Luke's Boise hospital via Air St. Luke's ground ambulance, fixed-wing aircraft, or helicopter, is seen by a maternal fetal medicine specialist. By working with Air St. Luke's, they are better able to meet their goal to transport Mom before the baby is born, because inside mom is the safest place for the baby to be during transport.

Neonatology

St. Luke's neonatologists are physicians who are trained specifically to care for high-risk infants with the most complex medical needs, such as prematurity, serious illness, injury, or birth defect. If a problem is identified before the baby is born, our neonatologists can consult with the obstetrician and assist during delivery. Our neonatologists have obtained extensive additional training in newborn intensive care and each is certified in pediatrics as well as neonatal-perinatal medicine.
